Survival in One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Solzhenitsyn and The Metamorphosis by Kafka In both One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, written by Solzhenitsyn, and The Metamorphosis, written by Kafka, there were struggles for survival in face of oppression. Both of the protagonists had lost control of their own lives and were forced to fight to keep the little control that they had. Shukov, a character created by Solzhenitsyn, was imprisoned in a Stalinist labour camp designed to attack its prisonersâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The prisoners being able to depend on one another to complete tasks and to share were huge factors in their survival in the prison camp. Dependence in The Metamorphosis was also important. Although in this case it was more the lack of dependence . Gregor was isolated from his family and from society. Despite his sisters minimal effort to feed Gregor, he received no aid from anyone throughout the novel. If he were able to depend on his family like Ivan could his friends he probably would have survived. His family simply turned their back on him the moment that they could not depend on him. This shows a similar message as to the message in Solzhenitsyns writing about dependence within the groups. Both authors showed, from different sides, how dependance is vital to survival. Second, the two novels use personal attitudes as a factor in the characters struggle for survival. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the prisoners had hope. Ivan, personally, lived each day and tried to make the best out of life in prison. He had a positive attitude toward the prison because he focused on only the positive events that occurred during his day. He did not complain about the negative events that occurred, he only had pure determination to get through it. Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to become familiar with the three different balances and two different methods used to find the weight and mass of chemicals and compounds in the ChemLab program. The lab was performed by using three different types of balances, and the direct weighing and weighing by difference methods. Materials Used: 2 Centigram Balances 1 High Sensitivity Balance 1 Electronic Balance 2 100ml Beakers Watch Glass Slugs 5 Copper Slugs Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Experimental Methods: The slugs were measured by both the direct method and by difference methods. First the slugs were measured using the direct method which is done by placing the weight directly onto the centigram balance and reading the results. The slugs were then measured using the by difference method where the slug was placed into a 100ml beaker and weighed then the slug was removed and the beaker was weighed. The first value of the beaker and slug recorded and the weight of the beaker alone was then subtracted from the irst value giving the weight of the slug by difference. Both of these results were received from using first a centigram balance and second the electronic balance. The direct method and the by difference method of weighing were both used when finding the weight of the unknown item in the lab procedure. This was done by first placing the unknown slug into a beaker and measuring both the slug and the beaker then by removing the slug and weighing just the beaker. The beaker weight was then subtracted from the combined weight resulting in the weight of the unknown slug by difference. Average mass of the 5 copper slugs was done by first weighing the first slug and recording the value, and repeating the steps each time a slug was added to the electronic balance. Find something that you value at many different aspects in your life. A pair of small round bangles was given to me as a gift from my grandmother. At the age around 80, She didn?t want to wear any jewellery and gave away all. My grandfather and mother, with whom I was so much attached mentally that my thought, belief, views all took a shape in a way that me the person who I am is partially was built by them. Their simple way of life and very simple happy everyday life influenced me so many ways whenever I see and I wear the bangles I feel I am very blessed with this very special gift. My grandmother was an illiterate woman and grew up in a very strong conservative Muslim family, early 2oth century she was born in a village grew up in a culture and time when a noble Muslim woman was not permitted walk beyond her home yard. I remember when she came to visit our home in Dhaka the capital city of Bangladesh, she wore a full body cover the black burka, a pair of black hand gloves, a pair of socks and it was very hard to see her eyes through the head Vail. I many time asked her how she could make it in a very hot humid day dressing up like that and, had a journey around 7 or eight hours. She smiled and said us ?don?t worry, time will change when you grow up, just study well, and study well so you can have a life as you desire. She knew a number of Quran verses but didn?t know how to read the Quran. She knew many poems that she learnt from her children when they studied for school. One thing she used to tell me, always be happy and satisfy what you have and be thankful to Allah for what he grants for you. When I was a kid I had problem in walking, on that time once my grandmother asked my father she had a a spiritual man who have miracle power to cure so I she wanted to take me to him , I was 12 years old and I was sent to her, when everybody fell into sleep she woke me up and we walk a long way in the middle of night ,passed through the meadow, vast paddy field and reached in a house yard that was crowed but dim lightening and the smel l of incense stick and burning candle, the place was very smoky its was like a circled meeting first with men then with women. The men was in kind of mental state he did not look to anybody but answer or sometime ask to people who are present I so wonder how a lady who never walked outside she every Thursday mid-night made alone this journey and surprising I found latter in my life she also highly enjoyed that four night walking all that long way to go and come . Only a lamp she When I feel sad or frustrated about something I think about back of my life my parents my grandmother specially her and her time. I feel very fortunate, this gift an inspiration to me.

LinkedIn Is it for Everyone Even Yoga Teachers When I get interviewed or just talk to people about LinkedIn, one question I often get is, ââ¬Å"Does everyone need a LinkedIn profile? Are there some professions where you donââ¬â¢t need one?â⬠I typically respond that there are some job titles where having a LinkedIn profile is not essential for a job search. Nursery school teachers and plumbers might not find their jobs through LinkedIn, nor, probably, will nurses or doctors- at least not right now. And I still recommend that people have a profile. Why? For one thing, the professional world is constantly changing. Seven years ago, I was telling lawyers that LinkedIn was not the most important place for them to be for their job search. Lawyers are notoriously slow to catch on to emerging technology (most firms insisted on using the dinosaur WordPerfect for years after everyone else had switched to Word). But now most attorneys I encounter find value in LinkedIn, both in the realm of job search and for networking purposes. Why Yoga Teachers Need LinkedIn Profiles One profession that might not be an obvious choice for LinkedIn success is ââ¬Å"yoga instructor.â⬠But LinkedIn posted a blog on March 7 about Rebecca Mayne, a woman who built a thriving yoga business using â⬠¦ yep, you guessed it â⬠¦ LinkedIn. Rebecca did something many yoga teachers fail to do: she created a LinkedIn profile. Soon she discovered that yoga studio owners were looking on LinkedIn for teachers. They hired her! She then built her network by connecting on LinkedIn with her students, which led to a private session at someoneââ¬â¢s workplace, followed by classes for the organizationââ¬â¢s employees. Not only has Rebeccaââ¬â¢s corporate yoga business exploded, but she is now training new teachers to do what she does. She was able to do all that because of LinkedIn. And Iââ¬â¢m willing to bet that when a corporation is interested in hiring her, the first thing they do is look at her LinkedIn profile. What About Other Professions? A March 9 article from Wellesley Collegeââ¬â¢s newsletter explored this issue as well. Overall, Wellesley students reported that they found the LinkedIn alumni group to be very useful in their networking efforts. One public health student, Sophie Gilbert, reported meeting with 10 alumnae for coffee, which gave her huge value as she was learning about her field. She also regularly reaches out to Wellesley alumnae in organizations that interest her- a practice that could very well lead to a job after graduation. Says Sophie, ââ¬Å"LinkedIn can be quite helpful for public health even though there is no specific group for it. You can search for degrees like [Masterââ¬â¢s in Public Health] or keywords that have to do with public health and find tons of alumnae who are working in this very broad field. Other than speaking with professors at Wellesley, LinkedIn is all there is for networking in public health.â⬠Sophie Kerwin, in contrast, is a student curatorial research assistant interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Art History, leading to a career in academic or curatorial work. She has not found LinkedIn to be valuable in pursuing an academic career in art history. Still, she has found it useful as a way to track the career paths of other academics and curators. She has followed a best practice of modeling her profile after theirs, a strategy I recommend highly. ââ¬Å"More people from the museum world are utilizing professional networking sites, but few people from the academic world utilize them,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"Most of the networking Iââ¬â¢ve done in both fields has been in person [or] through connections Iââ¬â¢ve made at Wellesley either in the Art Department or at the Davis Museum.â⬠I agree, based on my experience, that the academic and art worlds have not embraced LinkedIn as fully as have some other professions. But that doesnââ¬â¢t mean they wonââ¬â¢t, perhaps even within the next year. Why LinkedIn Can Be for Everyone For everyone, regardless of profession, LinkedIn can be a place to learn, network and explore. There are groups for almost every profession, and if thereââ¬â¢s not a group for yours then you can start one. Iââ¬â¢ll bet that ââ¬Å"if you build it, they will come.â⬠As the Wellesley article stated, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ the site cannot replace other means of networking such as developing in-person connections or creating accounts with career-specific websites.â⬠But that doesnââ¬â¢t mean you should not create a profile and milk it for all itââ¬â¢s worth.

Thereââ¬â¢s still time to improve your scores!A few hours of focused prep can make a big difference in your test performance, especially if you have obvious mistakes that you haven't noticed. Here are some guidelines that will help you design a last minute SAT study plan that works for you. I'll also give you a bunch of last minute SAT tips to raise your score. Time-Based Study Plans First, figure out how much time you can afford to devote to SAT prep in the short time you have before the test.Donââ¬â¢t forget to factor in other commitments and make sure youââ¬â¢re getting enough sleep so you can take full advantage of your review. The 5 Hour Plan If you have five hours to study and you havenââ¬â¢t studied at all before now, you should use your time to take an SAT practice test. This will help you get more comfortable with the format of the test and the types of questions to expect.You can improve your scores slightly just by taking a practice test! If you have already taken a few practice tests and donââ¬â¢t think it will be as helpful for you to take another one, use your five hours to take a closer look at missed questions.Focus on where you tend to make the most mistakes, and try to understand why they're happening.See the 15 hour plan below and this article to learn more about how to review your mistakes. You should also think about how much time youââ¬â¢re spending per question.For Math, it should be no more than a minute. For CriticalReading and Writing, it should be no more than 30-45 seconds. Familiarize yourself with how it feels to spend this much time on a question so you will know how to structure your time on the test. If you find yourself spending a longer amount of time on a question, you should skip it and move on to the next one so you will get to every question in the section and not miss easy points later! The 15 Hour Plan With this much time, there is potential for a substantial improvement in your scores. Let's break it down hour by hour. Hours 0-5: Take a Practice Test If you havenââ¬â¢t studied yet, this will help you get an idea of your weak spots and where you should focus the rest of your time.Be sure to take the test with realistic time constraints so that you can diagnose the problems youââ¬â¢re having accurately (often the main issue students have on the SAT is time). Hours 5-10: Review Your Mistakes For each question you answer incorrectly, make sure you know why your choice was incorrect and how to arrive at the correct answer. Also keep track of the questions where you had to guess. Even if you got some of them right, you still want to review anything that you didn't quite understand on the test. Usually mistakes fall into four categories: 1. Not Enough Time: You didnââ¬â¢t get to the question Study Strategy: Practice doing questions within the time constraints for the test so you get used to moving faster. Learn how to effectively skim reading passages, and make sure you know when to skip questions. Remember, you get a minute for math questions and 30-45 seconds for reading and writing questions. 2. Question Comprehension: You didnââ¬â¢t understand what the question was asking or got tricked by it Study Strategy: Slow down and read the questions more carefully! Sometimes it helps to write down the question in simpler form before answering. It also can't hurt to practice similar questions so your familiarity with the format will prevent confusion. 3. Unknown Material: You didnââ¬â¢t know the material covered in the question Study Strategy:Find a source for lesson material on the topic you donââ¬â¢t understand, and practice more questions that are similar.This is an area where a program like PrepScholar could really help you because it targets your weak content areas. 4.
